Director, Ars Electrónica Center

Gerfried Stocker is a media artist and communications engineer. In 1991 he founded X-Space, an interdisciplinary project team, which has realised numerous installations and performances in the fields of robotics and telecommunications. Since 1995, Gerfried Stocker has been artistic director of Ars Electronica. Together with a team of artists and technicians, he developed new, trend-setting exhibition strategies and created his own research and development department, the Ars Electronica Futurelab. Under his leadership, the international exhibition programme of Ars Electronica was developed from 2004 onwards and, since 2005, he has been responsible for the planning and repositioning of the content of the new and expanded Ars Electronica Center.
