Director, Conjunto Arqueológico Madinat al-Zahra
Antonio Vallejo Triano, born in Antequera (Málaga) in 1957, holds a degree in Medieval History from the University of Málaga and a PhD in Humanities from the University of Jaén.
He is a career civil servant in the Cuerpo Superior Facultativo de Conservadores del Patrimonio Histórico de la Junta de Andalucía. He was director of the Archaeological Ensemble of Madinat al-Zahra from 1985 to 2013, returning to the direction of this institution from January 2020 onwards.
He is an honorary member of the German Archaeological Institute and, together with Manuel Acién Almansa, is responsible for the Museum Programme of the Museum of Madinat al-Zahra, which has received several international awards. He is a member of the editorial board of several scientific journals specialising in Islamic archaeology and architecture and the author of numerous monographic and general publications on the material culture of the Umayyad caliphate of the West and, in particular, on Madinat al-Zahra, including the work La ciudad califal de Madinat al-Zahra.
