CM Málaga

Director, Diario Sur

Journalist Manuel Alejandro Castillo López (Málaga, 1966) is director of Diario SUR. A graduate in Information Sciences from the University of Malaga, he has spent his entire professional career at Vocento, where he has participated in the implementation and transformation of numerous news projects. He has been director of the Colpisa agency and of Vocento's central newsroom for regional media, a position he took up in 2009 and from which he has carried out a profound remodelling of the agency, converting it into a multimedia content factory for Vocento's 12 regional newspapers and six other regional newspapers, as well as for its Internet portals.

He began working with SUR in 1981, joining the newspaper shortly afterwards as Sports editor. He then moved to the Local section, where he worked in almost all thematic areas, especially in politics and municipalities. As head of the Local section, in 2001 he took over as news director of Canal Málaga, with the mission of integrating local television into the structure of SUR and starting to develop the multimedia newsroom model in coordination with other media in the group.

After three years at SUR's local television station, in 2004 he joined the founding team of La Voz de Cádiz, where he was deputy director and where he spent almost six years with responsibilities for the paper newspaper, the website and the launch of Punto Radio Cádiz. During his time in Cadiz, he received the Andalusia Journalism Award for the innovative nature of the Internet portal lavozdigital.es.
