José Antonio Ferrer, PhD and Master in Physics, heads the Energy Efficiency Research Unit (UiE3) at CIEMAT. His work focuses on reducing the energy demand through efficiency and changing the energy mix towards smart integration of renewable energy sources, especially in cities. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the Smart Cities Joint Programme of the European Energy Research Alliance, as well as of several committees of the Spanish Technology Platforms for Energy Efficiency, Geothermal, Solar Thermal and Construction. He participates in European and national R&D projects and is the author of high-impact publications related to energy efficiency. He also collaborates in various actions of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
