Izaskun Suberbiola Garbizu is a marine scientist and founder of MATER, the Ecoactive Boat Museum, a reference in environmental education in the Basque Country. Degree in Marine Sciences from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Superior Technician in Navigation, Transport and Maritime Fishing from the Blas de Lezo Naval School in Pasaia, Master in Teacher Training from the Complutense University of Madrid. She currently develops his professional work in the direction of MATER and as a manager of ecosocial projects and community action of the same entity. In recent years, MATER has received several awards at national and regional level for its innovative character in the empowerment of people and groups around the preservation and improvement of the environment (Tierra de Mujeres, ODS14, Atrae, Ramón Rubial...). It has recently received the first Excellence in Innovation for Rural Women 2023 award in the fishing and aquaculture sector.
